AEi® ANNOUNCES PMAT™ STANDARD PLATFORM
Standard Configurable Platform for Precision Opto-Electronics Development and Production Presented to Customers at ECOC 2006 in Cannes, France
Wilmington, MA – October 16, 2006 Automation Engineering Incorporated (AEi), a global supplier of high precision automation systems, announced today the availability of its new PMAT (Photonics Module Align, Assembly, and Test) flexible automation platform for precision photonics and opto-electronics applications. PMAT is targeted as a common solution for both new product development and full scale production deployment.
According to AEi Chief Technology Officer Andre By, “We’ve seen a real need in the marketplace for a highly capable and flexible platform that will allow end users to quickly develop new precision opto-electronic products and then scale up rapidly to full production to meet ever shortening market windows. There have been a number of “standard” systems offered in the last ten years to try to meet this need but these systems were actually quite limited in terms of performance, range of available features, and ease of customization. Another more recent development is that many of the suppliers for these earlier systems are totally out of the market and are no longer supporting these systems technically or even with spare parts. The only alternative for many has been to buy stages, station bases, and other individual components and then create their own fully custom system from the ground up. This really isn’t effective from a calendar time or cost perspective.”
“We developed the PMAT platform concept to fill this gap, based on generalizing and modularizing many aspects of the custom systems we deployed to meet these applications over the years. A PMAT solution will be faster to deploy than a custom system and more affordable.
