AEi DEVELOPS DUAL-CHANNEL LENS ALIGN LASER WELDING STATION WITH RE-BEND CAPABILITY

Multidimensional Force Feedback Used to Compensate for Post-Weld Shifts in Optoelectronic Applications

Wilmington, MA – November 12, 2005–Automation Engineering Incorporated (AEi), a leading supplier of high precision automation systems, has developed and deployed an advanced lens-attach laser welding station for extremely demanding optoelectronic applications. AEi’s welding automation systems automate and speed up fiber optic and optoelectronic module assembly processes with minimal operator interaction and training.

According to AEi Chief Technology Officer Andre By, “The new AEi station integrates dual channel lens alignment, lens laser weld attachment, and force-feedback based re-bend functionality. The re-bend capability developed and introduced by AEi minimizes any reduction in product performance caused by post-weld shifts.”

“The overall system produces minimal optical signal reduction between free-space alignment and post-weld power readings. It is able to balance the intricacies of maintaining power between two active channels during re-bend process, resulting in development of the robust re-bend algorithm.” concluded By.
