AEi ADDING DYNAMIC AUTOMATED POWER ADJUSTMENT FOR LASER WELDING

AEi to Incorporate Automated Power Compensation and Tracking for Laser Welding with FlexAuto Software

Wilmington, Massachusetts – May 28, 2003 Automation Engineering Incorporated (AEi) announced today that it was introducing an advanced ability to automatically adjust the power level for laser welding stations to provide more consistent weld repeatability. This will also include tracking of laser power performance over time for further improvements in process control.

“We see many of our customers looking for this capability for precision welding applications”, noted Rich By, Senior Software Engineer at AEi. “The power levels typically drift over time and the staff charged with keeping these laser weld stations at top quality levels don’t even know about the changes unless they do significant manual data collection. By incorporating automated data collection, tracking, and compensation directly into the FlexAuto control logic, we minimize manual intervention with corresponding improvements in production volume and yield.”

“The top requirement we find for many of our customers is that we provide easy to operate and maintain manufacturing processes and equipment,” adds Justin Roe, AEi’s Chief Operating Officer. “If the customer’s production and quality assurance staff don’t have the best tools and abilities to do this, they loose an important competitive advantage.”
